Science Gallery Lab Detroit is a brand new space that Michigan State University is bringing to Detroit. The mission of Science Gallery is to act as a collider of art and science, and to engage 15-25 year olds in connective, participative, and surprising ways. We’ll do this by combining emerging research and ideas from the worlds of art, science, design, and technology.
Science Gallery Labs will be the ‘innovation engine’ of the Global Science Gallery Network, building on the groundbreaking work of Science Gallery and reinventing it in experimental, uncommon and creative ways. Science Gallery Lab Detroit will engage academics and students at Michigan State University with new approaches and means of collaboration, embedding multidisciplinarity and public engagement at all levels in the university system.
Michigan State University has been working to advance the common good in uncommon ways for more than 150 years. One of the top research universities in the world, MSU focuses its vast resources on creating solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges, and will play a pivotal role in pushing the boundaries of the entire Global Science Gallery Network.
Science Gallery Labs unlock the creative potential of young people and, in particular, of learners with a special focus on marginalised youth and young women. Science Gallery Labs provide opportunities for young people to develop skills for today's and tomorrow’s jobs, create fertile ground for entrepreneurship and innovation, and act as a source of new connections and inspiration for young people around the globe.
Science Gallery Lab Detroit's first exhibition will take place in the summer of 2018. To find out more, visit our website or follow us on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook @SGLabDetroit.
